- Annotation: The article focuses on the problem of translating Pushkin’s lyrics into English in the 20th-21st centuries. The object of study is the content and form of A.S. Pushkin’s elegy “To *** (Don’t ask me why, alone in dismal thought)” in English translations. The subject of the study is the peculiarities of conveying the form and the contents of Pushkin’s poem, with two translations of the elegy, made by Vyacheslav Chistyakov and Andrey Kneller, as a case study. The analysis of two previously unexplored translations of Pushkin’s text constitutes the novelty of the study. The tasks of the study were as follows: to describe the peculiarities of the given translations, to outline the group of the key words of the poem, describe discrepancies in their translation. The study showed that numerous translation transformations were used by the translators. Kneller’s translation is more adequate because of avoiding emotionally charged language.
