- Annotation: The article examines the process of formation of investigative bodies in the territory of modern Kostroma Region, starting from its formation in 1944, and until the creation of a specialised investigative unit in 2007 – the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation in Kostroma Region. The author of the publication, on the basis of the study of archival and other little-known sources, introduces into the scientific circulation new, previously unknown information about the nature and specifics of the activities of the investigative apparatus in the indicated period of time. In the selection of material, preparation and writing of the article, such research methods as comparative analysis, elements of a systemic, biographical, dialectic and historical approaches were used. The main conclusion arising from the published material is the thesis that the establishment of the investigative apparatus in Kostroma Region was quite difficult, due to the lack of qualified personnel and the large volume of investigative and criminalistic activities. However, this process, possessing regional specifics, as a whole took place in accordance with the laws and other regulations in force at that time.
